More and more children are prescribed the powerful, mind-altering drug Ritalin – an amphetamine also known as speed. It has become the preferred solution for children with symptoms of ADHD, a diagnosis often given by school officials and psychiatrists and widely accepted by parents. Side effects are irregular heartbeat, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, irritability and headaches. There are nearly 6 million children in the USA between the ages of 6 and 18 taking Ritalin. In Denmark the use of Ritalin has gone up with more than 1000% over the last 10 years.
